Reducing maternal, newborn and child mortality in Somalia

Increased access to quality integrated health, nutrition and emergency protection services in Galmudug State

Description

The initiative aims to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality in Somalia by improving access to and quality of basic health and nutrition services.

In Galmudug state, CISP supports the provision of integrated health services by focusing on three main areas of activity: 

  • Maternal and reproductive health services - focusing on routine pregnancy checks, including screening for anaemia and syphilis, provision of micronutrient supplementation with iron and folic acid, tetanus immunisation.
  • Integrated essential health care for children - with a priority focus on integrated management of neonatal and childhood diseases.
  • Prevention, awareness-raising and implementation of anti-COVID-19 measures - promoting the adoption of hygiene and health practices that help limit the spread of the virus, provision of hand-washing points and triage of suspected cases.
